Apple Patents New iPad Smart Cover

iPad Smart Cover has gained many favors of iPad fans. And Apple is trying to patent a Smart Cover for the iPad that would feature an embedded flexible display enabling a dual-screen experience. The cover would use a connector on the side of the iPad that would supply data and power to the cover.  Let’s view in details what new features would be got for this new Smart Cover.

Keyboard

The most obvious use case for a flexible secondary display would be as a keyboard and touchscreen integrated into the inside of the Smart Cover.

Rear Display

The Smart Cover could also display software video and audio controls when the cover props up the iPad on a tabletop.

Graphics Tablet

Apple may also turn the Smart Cover into a graphics tablet allowing you to draw on the Smart Cover with a stylus and then view the drawing on the iPad screen.

Cover Alert

When the iPad isn’t in use, the outside of the Smart Cover lying flat on the device could be used to display calendar alerts, reminders, social networking updates, and other notifications. Based on the drawings submitted with the patent application, the secondary screen could be used as a virtual keyboard – think Microsoft Surface Tablet  - or even as a drawing slab.

It looks pretty cool. It’s still unsure whether Apple will launch this cover to promote the iPad.  If Apple will release this cover for us, it rises our experiences of using iPad greatly. I’m sure most people won’t mind paying $69 (cost of the leather iPad Smart Cover) if it came with these features.
